More on Spiritual Cinema

Continuing on yesterday’s reflection, I realized that I may not have a broad enough perspective on what comprises a “Spiritual Movie.”

As I stated, anything can be a spiritual movie, because in truth, everything is spiritual.

I spent a few minutes, yesterday, browsing the web and reviewing some of the various lists of top spiritual favorites. As I said yesterday, many of the movies do not seem spiritual to me. But last night, I realized that I may be way too narrow in what I am defining as a spiritual movie.

Let me give you an example. As a rule, I do not find Quintin Tarrentino movies to be particularly inspiring, yet others seem to love them. I saw one site which included “Pulp Fiction” on its list of top spiritual films. I would never dream of classifying that movie as something spiritual.

What I realized in my mini epiphany, last night, is that others may view this film as a meditation on senseless violence. Then I realized, we are all as unique in what we consider “spiritual” as we are with all of our other idiosyncratic choices.

So, what I decided is that when I do the web page, I will leave a small area to also discuss why the movie is spiritual; or perhaps I will place them in categories. For example: I loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind because it examined the role our memories play in our quest for inner peace.

I don’t know how to address this page. I am open to suggestions.

I do know I want to have fun with this. As each movie is posted, I want to revisit the film and write a review. I also want a forum for others to become involved and share their ideas about why the film is spiritual; what it said to you; why this is important.

We can have a sort of Spiritual Cinema Discussion Club by internet.

I vow to find a better way of doing it than the current discussion system.

So, keep your ideas coming in. Some have shared by posting on the existing discussion board, some have shared with me by phone, and others by personal email. However you decide to make your opinions known, we all appreciate it. I would love to end up with a few movies I have never seen, on the list.

Later, we will do the same with our most significant books. You may let that begin percolating now.

Thanks for being here!
