Top 100 Spiritual Films

I would really like to get a top 100 Spiritual Movies list going. I may or may not be able to list 100 that I consider my favorite spiritual films, on my own. I have never tried.

I would like us to put this together as a group.

There are 21 people on this particular list, so if each one contributed 5 unique movies, we could build the list in one day.

Then I will create a page with all 100 or more movies and we can vote on them and put them in our collective “favorite order”.

I have looked at other peoples “top” lists and have used some of them to choose movies to view. Quite frankly, half the time I do not understand why they are listed as spiritual films.

When I think of “Spiritual Movies” I am talking about films which address spiritual issues like forgiveness, love, peace, the search for serenity, pursuit of philosophical answers (i.e.: why are we here, what is our purpose, the nature of reality, what is God, etc.), and the list goes on. I am not necessarily thinking of religious movies, although some of them also meet my criteria.

I realize that any movie can be a spiritual movie. After all, what else is there to life besides spirit in all shapes and forms?

I am not into spiritual movies that force me to dip into my intellect to extract the message. I like them to stir an emotion within me. I like them to examine something spiritual in an entertaining, informative, or innovative way.

I prefer to feel better, after having watched the film; but I realize that sometimes the message must be presented in a less than uplifting way. If this, latter, is the case, I hope the movie leaves me pondering its significance, not wondering what I just watched.

So, I guess that is enough about what I consider the criteria for a great spiritual movie. Your shared selections will reveal what you enjoy and hold significant.

I have posted some of my favorites on the discussion forum. If you don’t want to bother with the forum, you may email me your picks. I will get the web page going tomorrow evening so we can all ponder our choices and avoid some of the duplication.

Here are more of my favorites:
