A Look at Desiderata - Day Eight - Final

You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be.

And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

I am concluding my analysis of Desiderata today. It feels to me like it is time to be done.

All of these last lines seem to work together for me. They are all about allowing and accepting. In the words of the Jamaican Lyricist, “Don’t Worry. Be Happy.”

One of the greatest goals, we will ever pursue, is being at peace. Choosing peace regardless of circumstances is part of our lives work.

We know, by this point in our journey, that all unhappiness is a result of a choice we make, and not by the actual outer experience upon which we would seek to place blame.

Conscious living requires that we take responsibility for our experience.

That includes claiming responsibility back from God, whatever we perceive her to be. Whether you believe you are God or that God is some being separate from you, your work is the same; claim responsibility for your own peace, and own that power.

This world, we have chosen to use as Earth School, is as beautiful or ugly as we choose to perceive.

I choose beauty, I choose love, and I choose peace. This is what I see, because this is what I expect to see. This is what I know is there, even in the midst of conflicting appearance.

Thank you for being a part of the beauty, a part of the healing.
