A Look at Desiderata, Day One

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

This is why we practice meditation; so that we have a choice. We can be in the noise and the haste, or we can choose to be centered in the silence amidst the chaos.

Sometimes, it is fun to be caught up in the chaos, but it is only “fun” when we are there by choice and not by default.

Jesus said he was “in the world, but not of the world”. I have always felt that meant he was physically here, but he was not controlled by the world. He was ruled by his inner connection to the universe.

So, participate in the noise and the haste, as long as you choose; but know that nothing can disturb the peace of the individual committed to silence.

Practicing the silence gives me choice. Choice equals freedom. I do not have to be “of the world” when I have freedom.
