Tend That Garden
A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind. – James Allen, “As a Man Thinketh”
To experience peace, I must plant the seeds of peace. I must think thoughts of peace.
I must tend the garden of my mind and weed out any thoughts which do not produce the peace I seek.
For me, this is typically thoughts about myself which do not serve me.
Like the garden, I know if I continue to sow seeds of “love without conditions” I will grow that consciousness.
Every year I intend to do some gardening. I like to grow onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and some herbs.
When I stay after my garden, I thoroughly enjoy the fruits of my labor.
When I neglect it, I am always astonished at how quickly the weeds totally dominate my little space.
It is a perfect metaphor for my day to day existence. When I consciously, (and being conscious is the key here) focus my thoughts on loving, accepting, and allowing, my experience of life is one of peace.
When I make any other choice, I am astounded at how quickly my collected trash manifests.
My work, in tending my Love garden, is a day to day, minute to minute experience.
Unlike the garden, where we must wait until harvest to enjoy the benefits of our work, tending this “Love garden” yields immediate results.
Consciously cultivate this joy today!
