Yes I am Glowing!
A friend of mine pointed out to me that I glow when I talk about my children. That has been brought to my attention before.
I do adore my children. I feel so very blessed to have them in my life. It is one of the greatest pleasures I have ever known, just to talk with them and catch a glimpse into their lives and the world as they see it.
I have always viewed my children as my teachers. They have never let me down in that role. Whether they are teaching me about myself, which has been their primary task, or if they are showing me a different way to look at things, I am forever awed by the lessons.
I was reading a poem, my daughter had written, and it brought tears to my eyes. I do not know exactly when it happened, but some time she moved from having childlike views to being a thoughtful adolescent. The depth of her insight, the power of her emotions, the significance she has attached to some of her memories, and her ability to express all this on paper captivated me.
When did my little girl become so philosophical? When did she assign such meaning to the events in her life?
Once again, I am student. Once again, I am awestruck.
Last night my son performed with a group of high school students in a concert, as part of his “Music-in-Motion” class.
Chris has a wonderful voice, but he has not yet found confidence about this ability.
This performance, in fact the whole choice to participate in this class, has been causing him some trepidation lately.
Nonetheless, he went into the performance last night. He faced his fears and walked through them wonderfully. He did very well and was filled with joy, by the end of the night.
When you add the fact that the vest these boys have to wear is a little too “Liberace-like” to suit most teenage boys, it took real courage to simply show up.
So, yes I am glowing. I am proud of my children; not so much for what they can do, as for who they are. They are beautiful, loving kids who are not afraid to cast aside peer pressure, as they explore their individual expression.
I am a very blessed and grateful parent.
