Random Observations

I was at the orthodontist’s office the other day.

I spotted this kid, I am guessing he was about 13, with a t-shirt which proclaimed, “Warning, This Player is More Dangerous Than He Looks”.

A few minutes later, I saw the kid smile as he examined his braces in the mirror.

I thought to myself, “Forget it kid. All the announcements in the world will never convince anyone, you are tough; if they see you smile.”

It’s just darned near impossible to look tough, with a mouth full of metal (unless, of course, you are that Jaws character from James Bond).

As my daughter and I sat, waiting for the Doctor, I overheard two Ortho Assistants talking. They switch office locations, each day of the week, as the doctors have multiple locations.

Their conversation was centered on the location they worked on the days when certain events happened.

One said, “We were in Overland Park when Katrina hit, and now we will be in Overland Park when Rita hits.”

They mentioned several other locations and events that coincided with the day.

A third assistant piped in, “We were also in Overland Park on the day the Jackson Verdict was returned.”

I could not help myself. I had to laugh.

“That’s right up there with, Where you were the day JFK was killed, or What you were you doing when 9/11 happened.” I said.

We all got a good laugh out of it, except for the poor girl who found M.J’S verdict so memorable.

I really did not intend to make fun. It just struck me as funny. Oh, the things we commit to memory.
