Blessed by Fear
Oh what a blessing fear can be.
I have written before that nearly every major breakthrough I have ever experienced came as a result of walking through a fear. What incredible joy awaits the pilgrim who is willing to face a fear and choose to walk through it, anyway.
You know the elation I am talking about. You stand on the edge of a cliff, with the lake 20 feet below you. All eyes are on you to jump. Fear creeps in. Fear you did not know you had when sitting below, in the boat. You have a choice to make. Give in to the fear and walk back down the trail, or acknowledge it, and jump.
The freedom, the jubilation, the wisdom into who you are and your unique lessons, lies in acknowledging the fear and moving through it.
I am not discounting inner wisdom that instructs you not to do something because it is contrary to your highest and greatest good.
Fear feels differently. Fear is an immobilization. It seeks to keep you from moving forward for a variety of reasons, most of which are totally irrational.
The challenge for us it to know if the restraint we feel is fear or if it is guidance.
Here the body is a very useful tool. Fear carries an emotional attachment which will manifest itself somewhere in the body.
Right now, think of something that scares you. Notice the related feeling in your gut, your head, or your chest, wherever you have chosen to physically manifest your experience of fear.
True guidance does not have that emotional component. Guidance is love based. Fear is based in anything but love.
Fear truly is a blessing. It is a teacher about an area of your life which needs healing. It is a marker which indicates a thought, you have held, which no longer serves you.
Finding the fear is only half the blessing. Walking through the fear and seeing the truth instead of the illusion; therein one discovers the full blessing.
So, when on the cliff, jump. When the opportunity presents itself, get out of your chair and dance.
Life can be a perpetual treasure hunt. Look inside yourself; find your fears and walk through them. Each carries its own gift. Each conceals a unique blessing.
