God Should

The one word, most contrary to peace is “should”.

We have all heard that we need to eliminate should from our vocabulary. Just mention the word around any metaphysical neophyte and you are sure to get a reminder of how destructive the word can be.

Of particular importance to me here is our concept of what God should be.

This one idea causes so many people to have frustration-filled lives.

And what is a “God-should” thought anyway? It is an expectation, we create, concerning a concept; we can not grasp, yet seek to control. That may be a new definition for insanity.

I have always found it remarkable that we are told we are created in the image and likeness of God, yet we immediately seek to retroactively create an image of God based on that which we know, or think we know, about ourselves. A God created with such restrictions is bound to let us down.

It’s kind of ironic. We create God in our image; then when this imaginary God does not perform as we feel it should, we lose faith in it.

The whole concept sounds pretty silly when viewed from this perspective doesn’t it? Yet, millions of us have suffered quiet desperation from this very “should”.

Let go of the need to define God.

Let God be free of our “should”.

By setting my “concept of what God should be” free, I free myself.
